I've been meaning to put up something about a former Seal I came across a few months ago. He did a podcast with Tim Ferris and did another with Joe Rogan which is where I came across him.
Here's the podcast on Youtube.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnKcquMobHQ
You'll notice how he looks like he's genetically engineered with Shark DNA. He's a serious dude! Well worth listening to. Great insight in the the teams, their mentality and their philosophies.
He wrote the book Extreme Ownership - its about the lessons he and co-author Leif Babin learned on deployment and how they transfer from combat to real life. "Combat is Life - Amplified and intensified" they often say.
The format of the book talks primarily about their deployment in Ramadi, Iraq - The scenarios they went through, how they handled them, and the lessons they learned.
Here is a bit of a summary about some of the points they cover, but I really recommend reading the book to get a better understanding of the context they've come from and apply to.
Extreme ownership is a leadership guide, so they reckon these qualities and abilities are important to suceed -
He's got a podcast "Jocko Podcast" Which I also recommend listening to. The first few eps are weak, but it gets better if you can tolerate his co-host.
Steve's sick of listening to me go on about him, but I think he's a bit of Legend.
Also worth listening to is another Rogan/Seal podcast with Andy Stumpf

More interesting insights.

Extreme ownership is a leadership guide, so they reckon these qualities and abilities are important to suceed -
- Identify personnel, assets, resources, and time available.
- Decentralize the planning process. Empower key leaders within the team to analyze possible courses of action.(Decentralised Command - Very Important)
- Determine a specific course of action. Lean toward selecting the simplest course of action.
- Empower key leaders to develop the plan for the selected course of action.
- Plan for likely contingencies through each phase of the operation.
- Mitigate risks that can be controlled as much as possible.
- Delegate portions of the plan and brief to key junior leaders. Stand back and be the tactical genius.
- Continually check and question the plan against emerging information to ensure it still fits the situation.
- Brief the plan to all participants and supporting assets. Emphasize Commander's Intent.
- Ask questions and engage in discussion and interaction with the team to ensure they understand.
- Conduct post-operational debrief after execution. Analyze lessons learned and implement them in future planning.
